Jeff Mathias, SS El Faro
Jeff and I met while attending Mass Maritime Academy, and with him being from Kingston and myself from Cape Cod, we became very close friends and sailed on many ships together over the years. We have alot of great memories and sea stories, and it was always fun to be around each other both on and off the ship.
Jeff is a loving husband and father of three children, ages 3, 5, and 7. A few weeks ago, Jeff shared with me how happy he was to be able to make it home for a week in September to see his oldest off to her first day of school on the school bus. He had been onboard the ship since June.
In the wake of this tragedy and the unexpected circumstances that Jeff's family now faces, I want to bring support from our community to help Jeff's family throughout this difficult time. Funds raised through this campaign will be go directly to Jeff's wife to help pay for the unforseen expenses from this incident.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mathias family and all the families effected.
We still hold on to hope that the crew of the El Faro will be coming home soon.
Thank you for your support,
Mass Maritime '97

I want to thank everyone for all of your support, messages, and shared memories, it truly means a lot to all of us.
We are very saddened by your loss among the others lost at sea. My husband thinks he worked with Jeffrey and not sure if he ever worked for AMSEA. God Bless. Our prayers are with you
My condolences to your family. I do not know Jeff but he looks very familiar. Is by any chance related to Bruce Mathias?
