Dear Friends, Family, and Fans,

For almost two years, our dear friend, the legendary bassist Jeff Chambers, has been quietly battling cancer. In hopes of avoiding the ravages of chemotherapy, Jeff has begun intensive alternative treatment.

Unfortunately, this treatment is not covered by insurance — and it’s not cheap.

Jeff cannot fight this battle on his own.  As his symptoms have progressed, we’re calling on you to help. The time has come to break the silence.  Please spread word of his illness, and help us support his recovery and ensure his loved ones can be with him when he needs them most.  While love is the best medicine, your donations are crucial, and will enable Jeff to focus his energy on healing rather than worrying about the crippling costs of treatment and recovery.  Contributions will also help cover his family's travel expenses and Jeff's costs of living while in intensive care.
All of us want to see Jeff back on stage, making his incredible contributions to the world of jazz, and off stage as our teacher, colleague, and friend.

Please join us in helping him. No contibution is too small.

Thank you, and All The Bass to You!

Hi Everyone- here's an update from Jeff & Mary- as of 11/1/17

It’s been a week since Jeff’s return from the Oasis of Hope Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico. Life is slowly returning to normal as we slip back into our everyday routine. Only a month ago (September 29th) we were told that without chemotherapy, Jeff only had a matter of weeks to live. By that very same evening, he was admitted to Alta Bates ER in Berkeley as his kidneys began to fail. And yet 4 days later, through their care, his kidneys bounced back and he was released to go home, wheelchair-bound but blood pressure and kidneys were back to normal functioning. This was astounding to the folks at the hospital as they told us at admittance that his kidneys may not return to normal function and that he may be on dialysis.

That Wednesday, October 4th, Jeff left and checked into the Oasis of Hope Hospital in Mexico. He began to feel better and was able to get up and walk around within a week and ½. Their process of blood oxygenation, (call Ozone therapy) Hyperthermia therapy, Vitamin therapy, including C, K, and B-17 also a Vegan diet, and not to forget in the beginning lots of pain management was incredibly effective and Jeff responded with vigor.

Through the 3 weeks of care, the Oasis of Hope Hospital ran multiple tests and imaging scans and discovered that his liver was NOT affected by cancer (contrary to what the Oncologist here in California advised us) but that radiation would be needed for cancer found in his pelvis bones.

Needless to say, it has been a wild ride; all the while accompanied by the fierce love and support Jeff has received from everyone. A very special thanks goes out to his son Aki Chambers who made it financially possible to get Jeff admitted to the Oasis. With the monies pledged through GoFundMe, we were able to pay the balance remaining for the hospitalization and medication. Our goal now is to deal with the 3-month recovery protocol process. We are still waiting on Doctor’s reviews of test results for the next phase of the treatment plan, which may include radiation?

Jeff has applied to Music Cares for help and we hope to have their support as we navigate through the next several months but we don’t know yet whether he will be awarded that funding.
Although there are a few gigs on the books in December, he will have no income for a while and we’ll need to continue the fundraising. Many folks have suggested a concert and we are working towards a plan for that so Jeff can be included to play. :)
In the meantime, please continue to share the GoFundMe link and we’ll keep you posted on plans for a concert.

The many, many phone calls and pledges of help, love and financial support have been overwhelming and heartwarming and though it was very hard for Jeff to ask for your help, Jeff is glad he did and thanks you from the bottom of his heart and soul~

Sincerely,
Bass-ically Yours…
