Dewey's Power Wheelchair

Dewey was born 3 months premature, weighed 1 lb 15 oz.  and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. He is now 19 years old and is a student manager of many sports teams at his school. His goal is to get a degree in Sports Management and become an Activities Director. He has been using a wheelchair since he was 2 years old and currently uses a standing power chair. He began using a power chair with a standing feature 7 years ago to assist with toileting, especially while at school. He is now very dependent of this feature. We have a quote of $65,000 to replace his current chair which no longer stands and is in need of multiple repairs. We are also looking into alternatives that may be less expensive, however, these are not as customizable to fit Dewey and may not position him properly. The chair cannot be ordered until funding is in place and we would like to be able to have the chair ordered by February 15th. 

As the saying goes you don't know what you've got till it's gone. We didn't realize how much Dewey's quality of life and independence relied on his standing wheelchair. It has been difficult both at home and at school for Dewey the last few months. He is very greatful for anyone who feels led to give to the purchase of a new chair. If we can find a less expensive alternative that provides him with the support he needs any funds raised above that cost will go to pay medical expenses.
