Marine Sergeant Daniel D Gurr was killed in combat on August 5th, 2011. Before the sun set that day in the Sangin district of Helmand province, his fellow Marines wrote on an American flag and raised it on their patrol base in his honor.. The next year, the same flag was found by a member of my unit in an armored vehicle. I folded the flag up and brought it home.. Thanks to the facebook page "Sangin Valley Gun Club", I've been in contact with Sgt Gurrs family and some of his team members who were with him at the time of his death. Instead of mailing the flag and risk getting it lost in the mail, I hope to raise the funds to fly out to his hometown of Vernal, Utah and personally present the flag to his mother. After my plane ticket and hotel is paid for, any remaining funds will go to the Sgt Daniel D Gurr foundation. Please help me get this priceless piece of history back to this hero's family. God bless America and God bless our troops.

3 years in the making.. I handed off Sgt Daniel Gurr's memorial flag to his mother. I met some amazing people along the way. Huge thanks to the Recon Marines and citizens of Vernal Utah for being so friendly and respectful. I am truly honored!

Thanks so much for the support everyone. Please understand that now that I have enough for a plane ticket and room, all further donations will be given to the Sgt Daniel D Gurr foundation. Sgt Gurrs parents started this foundation after his death to help out wounded warriors. He will never be forgotten!
