Emily's Medical Service Trip- Peru

Hi Everyone,
So I have never done anything like this before, but after seeing the success stories that other pepople have had from this wonderful resource I figured I'd give it a whirl.
For those of you who don't know, my name is Emily Strum. I am 23-year old recent graduate from North Carolina State University. My degree is in Human Biology with minors in Nutrition and Psychology. I chose this degree path because my ultimate goal/dream is to attend medical school and become a MD. I am currently in the process of making this dream a reality, but I cannot do it without your help. Since graduating, I have been using my free time to buildup my resume and have recently been presented and accepted into a great program to help me to do this.
A couple of months ago, I applied to a program called Hands on Peru or HOP. HOP is an international service program whose mission is to improve and develop the lives of deprived children and adolescents in the rural areas of Peru. This goal is reached by providing much-needed aid through 3 sub-programs and services that the HOP program provides. These services are the Hands to Build, Hands to Cure and Hands to Teach programs. Although, all of the programs are truely remarkable I am most interested in (and have been accepted into) the Hands to Cure program seeing that my own goal is to become a health provider. This program is a 5-week service trip where I will be trained to provide basic healthcare to the Peruvian community. The services I will be adminstering to these communities include, basic healthcare, psychiatry, ultrasounds, labor and delivery, surgeries and public health. I have attached the link for the Hands to Cure website so that you can check it out yourself and see in more detail what the program is really about.
Additionally, I would like to make it very clear that all of the donations will be used to pay for the cost of the program itself, which is about $1650, and the cost of the flight (about $1000). Any other personal costs for the trip will be supplied by myself using the small amount of money I have been able to save thus far.
As far as a timeline goes, my flight leaves on the 11th of July and I have to have my program costs paid for about a month in advance so I am setting my end date for the 15th of June. Hopefully I can reach my goal by this date!!
Now that I have gone over the basics and provided a little infomration about the program itself, I'd like to tell you all why this trip means so much to me. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I don't want to miss. I have turned down opportunites like this before in the past due to bad timing or lack of funds and I refuse to do it anymore. I have never been a part of a program like this before and I am so proud and honored to have been given this opportunity. This program is a great way for me to learn from top doctors in the area and to build my resume up for medical school applications, but more importantly it is an opportunity to help those less fortunate and to hopefully change their lives for the better even if it's just for one day. I can't express in words how grateful I am for this opportunity and how terribly I want to go. I know that this program will teach me life lessons that no classroom will ever be able to teach. I am truely honored and appreciate any donations that are given!! I am so thankful for this website and for generous people like yourself who help to make dreams like mine come true!! Again, thank you so much for taking the time to read about this program and GO PERU!!
