Jayden's Handicap Van

From Jayden's mom:

April 2013, our lives were forever changed. I received a phone call from the foster care agency that I worked for and they told me of a beautiful little boy that needed our help. On August 26, 2012, Jayden suffered a traumatic brain injury at the hands of his mother's boyfriend.

     Instantly his life completely changed, at 2 ½ he was now fighting for his life. He was on life support for 13 days but my little man is a fighter! It took months of rehab and specialist to repair his broken little body as much as they could. Jayden was left with severe permanent damage. Currently he has 13 different providers at 3 different hospitals. Jayden suffers from over 15 chronic conditions, many of them life threatening.

     Upon hearing all about his medical needs I was nervous and unsure if I could manage his care. My husband and I agreed to meet him at the hospital and speak with the doctors to determine exactly what his needs were. It was all very overwhelming. We listened, took notes, and asked questions and the moment they brought Jayden in the room I knew I could do this. We made a vow that day that no one would ever hurt this little boy again!

     We went home and discussed it with our 3 sons. We told them all about Jayden and his special needs, they were all onboard. Even knowing all the sacrifices they would have to make the boys couldn’t wait to meet their new baby brother.

    We have fostered Jayden for 4 years and are so proud to announce that on February 23, 2017 he officially became ours! The past 4 years have been such a blessing. We are so grateful for everyday… Jayden has taught us all so much. The gifts he has given this family far outweigh any sacrifices we have made. As a family we have made it our mission to show Jayden the love he so deserves.

     I have been Jayden’s voice and biggest advocate throughout the years. Like most people, I have always found it very difficult to ask for help. Soon it will be impossible for me to lift him in and out of his car seat. As Jayden grows new issues pop up. For example, because of the contractures of his neck muscles it is extreme difficult for him to keep his head up.

     We have a new wheelchair on order to help with this issue but that also means his adaptive stroller is no longer appropriate for him as it has no head support. Which means we will have to take the new wheelchair everywhere we go. Jayden has outgrown our current vehicle. We knew this day was coming but we didn’t expect it to come this fast. We desperately need a wheelchair van to keep Jayden’s quality of life and I just don’t have the funds to do it.

     Keeping a job and having Jayden is nearly impossible, we are doing our best to stay afloat but his needs are growing just as fast as he is. So here I am asking for your generosity, anything to help would be greatly appreciated. If you can’t help monetarily, we could always use a prayer.
