Jayden Cho-Sargent Memorial Garden

The morning of November 3, 2016 is a moment that mother, Kellie Cho-Foley, will never forget. It was the moment that she received the phone call no parent should ever receive. Her young son Jayden Cho-Sargent was hit by a car and killed on his way to school.
The whole community felt a fraction of her pain as the story broke and has continued to rally together to support her, Jayden and the idea of improved pedestrian safety. A memorial pole has stood at the scene since his tragic passing. On Wednesday, March 22nd Kellie received a call that I am sure everyone dreaded to make. The city was asking after a request from a community member about taking the memorial pole down.
This of course created a flurry of emotions, anger, sorrow and frustration. She went to social media pleading that the pole be left alone as it is the one place she has currently to visit Jayden and keep his memory alive. While funds were initially raised to help cover the cost of a funeral they ran short of being able to also cover a burial.
The family continues to work to gather enough funds for a proper burial - but in addition the community of Lewiston is also interested in creating a public memorial garden in his honor in Sunnyside Park.
The city of Lewiston is being very supportive in the endeavor, but it does cost money for a memorial stone, the flowers, the soil, a bench - the works.
On April 22nd, earth day members of the community had already planned a clean up of the park and no better day to also come together to build the Jayden Cho-Sargent Memorial Garden.
Anything funds raised will go directly to the cost of building this garden and all additional funds will then go to Jayden's family to support a proper burial and headstone.
In addition to raising funds through this campaign - The Lewiston is accepting donations in Jayden's name to go to this. Those checks (made payable to the city of Lewiston) with a note indicating that it is for the Jayden Cho-Sargent Memorial Garden can be sent to Heather Hunter - 27 Pine Street Lewiston, Maine 04240.
