Please help if you can!
My 15 year old nephew, Jason recently suffered a very serious, life threatening injury to his pancreas. He was playing in a high school football game and landed very hard on the foot of another player. His pancreas was crushed into the back of his spine. He hoped his pain would subside, but when it became alarmingly extreme, he was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery & spent 3 days in ICU. He survived, thankfully, but with a very guarded prognosis of his pancreas recovering from this injury.

The pancreas is a gland organ that is located in the abdomen. It is part of the digestive system and produces vital enzymes and hormones that help break down foods.
Enzymes, (digestive juices) produced by the pancreas are secreted into the small intestine to break down food after it has left the stomach. The gland also produces the hormone insulin and secretes it into the bloodstream in order to regulate the body's glucose or sugar level. Without a functioning pancreas, a person would be a diabetic, dependent upon insulin for all of their (restricted) lives.

After 18 days in the hospital, Jay has now finally been released on a very restricted diet. He has drainage tubes surgically implanted in his abdomen- which drain out the fluid that is leaking from his pancreas into his abdominal cavity, so that the fluid will not digest his internal organs and intestines.
During this time, he needs 3 separate types of medication-one of which is a shot that he requires 3 times a day. If the pancreas does not heal itself, he will need to undergo additional surgery to remove part of it. The doctors estimate only a 10-15% chance that his pancreas will heal itself, (we are hoping for the best!) but it is quite likely he will be back in the hospital in 8 weeks time to have that surgery done.

Unfortunately, Jay's father was informed last week that the company he works for is closing and he will be laid off at the end of the month.

Please help if you can. Even $10 or $20 will help. It all adds up. Jay's mom (my sister) is a hard working, devoted mom of 3. She has always put her family first. She never even goes on vacation, except to visit relatives. She always just makes sure the kids are happy & well. Medical expenses add up quick in the hospital. If you can help us at all, please accept our undying gratitude!!
