Jaquan Jr's Cancer Fight

Donation protected
My Co-worker's 6 year old son is battling Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a type of cancer that starts in certain very early forms of nerve cells found in an embryo or fetus. (The term neuro refers to nerves, while blastoma refers to a cancer that affects immature or developing cells). This type of cancer occurs most often in infants and young children.

Jaquan Ross Jr is a very active 6 year old boy who loves video games and dinosaurs.  He lives in Richmond, VA with his mother and father.  As he's their only child so he's the apple of their eyes.

During Jr's annual doctor's visit in May 2015, the doctor felt something unusual in the area around his stomach.  Prior to the visit Jr. showed no signs of illness so, there was no need to be alarmed.  His doctor ordered x-rays of his stomach to confirm what he felt.

When the results of the x-ray came back they immediately admitted him to MCV hospital for further testing.  They conducted a series of test; blood work, CT scan and a biopsy to determine if this was indeed Cancer.  His parents spent many days at the hospital waiting for the official results which confirmed he had Stage 4 Neuroblastoma.  This places him at the intermediate risk “Any child who is Stage 4, younger than age 1, whose cancer has no extra copies of the MYCN gene.

Treatment of neuroblastoma depends on the stage of the cancer, the child’s age, and other factors.  Depending on the treatment options Jaquan may need the following.

- Surgery
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation therapy
- High-dose chemotherapy/radiation therapy and stem      cell transplant
- Retinoid therapy
- Immunotherapy

Treating neuroblastoma is complex and often requires the expertise of many different doctors, nurses, and other health professionals. The doctors on the treatment team often include:

- A pediatric cancer surgeon
- A pediatric oncologist (doctor who uses chemotherapy and other medicines to treat childhood cancers)
- A pediatric radiation oncologist (doctor who uses radiation therapy to treat cancer in children)

The blessing in this is this cancer is curable and with treatment he WILL conquer this.  With the permission of Jaquan Ross Sr. and his wife Jennifer Ross, we started this GoFundMe page to assist them with medical expenses and any other expenses incurred during this rough time. We are asking for your donations and to please share this page with every and anyone you know so we can be a blessing to the family.  Even with insurance, medical expenses add up very quickly so, we are asking for any gift you can provide. No gift is too small.

Thank you for reading our story, passing it on and your gift.  It is Greatly Appreciated!
