My name is Nailah Davis and ever since the sixth grade, it has been my dream to study abroad in Japan. I spent my free time obsessively researching the culture, and I dedicated myself to learning the language. I wanted to go abroad during high school but, due to vicious battles with mental illness, I never got the chance. Still determined to go, I worked hard to improve my mental health and stabilize my anxiety disorder.

Once I got into the New College of Florida, I renewed my quest to study abroad. Unfortunately, my chances of going to Japan seemed bleak because my school lacked a Japanese language and culture program. However, I figured out a way to add Japanese studies into my curriculum and justify my time abroad. I switched my major from Chinese Language and Culture to the Humanities with a focus on East Asian Literature. After getting clearance from my advisers, I took a leap of faith and applied to USAC's yearlong study abroad program in Nagasaki, Japan. A few weeks ago, I got my acceptance letter! Which means my dream is finally coming to fruition!

I was initially dissuaded by the program's high cost. But I would be the first person in my family to study abroad and knowing my dream is so close to me, I've continuously applied to scholarships to ease the financial burden on my family. Even with the support of my hard-working single mother, it's clear to us that we cannot do this alone. Despite our efforts, we still need help to get enough money by the fee payment deadline on June 15th.

I will be forever grateful to those who take the time to help my dream come true. Every little bit helps, including sharing my story on your social media if you cannot donate. So please, donate and/or share widely!

Thank you so much for donating to help my dream come true and sharing my page on your social media. Your support means the world to me.
