Ja'Michael Returns to Turin, Italy!

WHO AM I?
My name is Ja’Michael Darnell. I am a young actor from Hearne, TX. I am a 2014 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. I was awarded the 2015-2016 Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant to study physical theatre at Atelier Teatro Fisico in Turin, Italy from September 2015 to July 2016.
While in Italy, I enrolled in Atelier’s flagship performing arts program. I got a chance to train in a variety of classes that challenged me creatively and physically. I dabbled in areas I’ve never experienced before: Jacques Lecoq movement technique, Tanztheater, Acrobatics, Pantomime, Clown, and Classical Dance.
WHAT I PLAN TO DO?
Because I successfully completed the requirements for the first year of the program, I was INVITED back to complete the second year of the program, in order to receive the Level 1 Diploma in the PAUT (Performing Arts University Torino) program. In the second year of the program, I have the opportunity to develop 3 shows of my own and continue training in physical theatre. I am also planning to get out and do more volunteer and film work in the community. I am using this time abroad as the building blocks for the future work I will do in theatre, film, and philanthropic service.
So, I decided I will hop on this opportunity and take a leap of faith to complete this program. The saying is “Don’t Start Something You Can’t Finish”, right? Well, I plan to finish it!
I plan to work as a singer over the year in order to pay for the $4000 tuition for the school and my living expenses. I will be making a small band with a few of my friends and we will perform at different bar locations and events. Working as a singer in Italy has already shown me a feasible source of income. Above is a snippet of what I plan to do more of! I did that right before I left Italy in July.
If my plan doesn’t follow through by January, my backup plan is to enroll in less classes and work as an English teacher. (I don’t have experience teaching and working with kids for nothing!
WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING?
I have $2,500 of my own saved up to take with me. My goal is to raise $2500 more to have at least $5,000 to begin with in order to give myself a safe start over the next 3 months. I have already purchased my plane ticket back to Torino. I will be leaving on September 13 and I will begin classes on September 20.
All of the donations will go towards a portion of my tuition for the school, housing, and food.
I will be sending postcards from Torino to all donations of $25 or more. I will also be sharing a video of one of my 3 projects for all donations of $50 or more.
