James Baldwin. Bold. In your face. Prophetic. Passionate.
We're set to show a film @ him: "The Price of the Ticket" next month: Saturday Feb 24th. @ The Vortex an industrial space dedicated to all that's righteous nr DTLA just as one heads into ELA.

I'm lucky enough to be able to show some of my artwork during this one-day event. There will be two other artists exhibiting as well. Our theme: "Prophets, Profits...Promises". That covers a lot and the work will too.

The "we" includes community activists, veterans advocates, ex-homeless survivors, musicians, recording engineers, and "friends".

Most of us have worked together b4...projects to end homelessness right there @ The Vortex, other film showings, guerrilla workshops...
We've picked up a few new folks as we typically do. There are so many people looking for a way to help. We embrace them all. None of us have the proper funding for all of our great ideas. When we find consensus, and the timing seems right...we launch! Like now.

The venue is donated as is permission to show the film. The Director, Karen Thorsen has advocated on our behalf for some years and the project has fallen into place only now. The Universe does have its rules & timeline/s.

If this sounds like a project you'd like to become a part of...pls let us know. If this sounds like an event you'd like to attend, let us know. If this sounds like a project you want to and can support with a donation, fo shure let us know!

All help is appreciated. Our general event costs are covered to the extent of about $650 as of this writing. We will feature some "congratulatory" messages in a Souvenir Program Booklet to raise a bit more to cover printing costs. Funds generated from YOU will be used to make sure the exhibition space for the artists is safe, viewer friendly and professional--in keeping with the venue.

Our typical target guest lives, works, visits nearby in DTLA.

If you are a carpenter and are so inclined, come help us build display boards/temp fixtures. If you love film, come see an extraordinary love poem inspired by the writer we know as Jimmy Baldwin. If you're a collector, come see the outpourings from the 1960s and beyond (magazines/photos/artwork). There will be originals and prints/cards for sale & all because you have said: "Yes" I'll help. Thank You!!
