J'ai secouru des migrants

€16,323 of €15,000 goal

Raised by 519 people in 5 months

My name is Pierre-Alain, I am 46 years old and work in research at the University of Nice. I’m a single dad and live in Nice with my two kids.

In October 2016, I was in the Roya valley when I saw three Eritrean women who were injured having crossed the border from Italy into France. I helped them as it was clear that they needed medical treatment.

We hadn’t driven far, when we got stopped by police who arrested all of us. My crime was that I had been “helping illegal immigrants to circulate in the country”.

A judge later ruled that I had helped the women to "protect their dignity", and I was acquitted.

However, the prosecutor appealed the result and I had to stand trial earlier this year.

On Monday September 11, I will find out the final verdict and could face five years in prison and a 30, 000 € fine,

I don't regret my actions, because it was the human thing to do, and I want my children to grow up knowing that their father believes in fighting for a better world.

I’ve started this GoFundMe page to cover my legal costs and any remaining donations will go to organisations that help women, children and family dignity, here in Nice.

The French story of my arrest has been translated in English, Spanish, Italian
