I am Jai Dara Latto a 22-year-old, transgender woman. I was born in Bangkok, Thailand to an Indian/Thai mother and a Scottish father but now live in Scotland in a small rural village..

I’m both a regional and national winner of a 2015 transgender pageant.

I have been doing local charity work for LGBT Borders equality, and volunteered for transgender alliance at Glasgow pride.

I’m also a supporter of the TIE campaign,(Time for inclusive education) as we need to work to eradicate homophobia, biphobia and transphobia by making the lives and contributions of the LGBTI+ people visible throughout education. We need to celebrate diversity in all forms. A good climate in school means children have a greater chance to learn well and have positive relationships with others. LGBTI+ students need allies and I believe that the TIE campaign gives them that.

I’m planning on doing a fundraising event that will support organizations in India, Thailand and Scotland that support transgender and LGBTI+ issues. I have chosen one Indian charity, one Thai organization and the scottish borders LGBT equlity

The Sahodari foundation in India is a movement, a family, and a team of young transsexual people, volunteers and friends. Sahodari was founded by Kalki Subramaniam, a successful transsexual woman from Pollachi, Tamilnadu.

The Foundation's main objectives include the following:

To promote social, political, and economic equity and campaign for civil and legal rights of Transgender and intersex people.

To work for establishing social, economic, and environmental justice for Transgenders, intersex and gender non-confirming people and to eliminate oppression and exclusion based on such factors as race, ethnicity, gender, class, religion, legal status, sexual orientation, age, and disability.

To prohibit discrimination based on "gender identity or expression" and ensure that the entire range of transgender, intersex and gender non-conforming people are protected.

The Thai organization that I picked is the Thai Transgender Alliance (Thai TGA). Thai TGA is a network of individuals, groups, and organizations working to promote human rights for transgender people in Thailand. The primary goal of the network is to advocate for a better quality of life in all aspects for transgender people.

with the money raised i will use to support the chosen charities along with volunteering time I will give while I am over there. I want to experience and learn how other trans women live and the get an insight into the different cultures.

I want to make it easier for poor trans people in rural areas of these countries to have the same benefits and support that I have over here in Scotland.

I would also like to be able to give financial aid to trans women and men nominated from the Thai and India charities, to help them with becoming their true self. This could be for example new makeup, doing up their home environment to  make them feel more comfortable, or even supporting them with HRT hormone replacement treatment. basically any way I can help in making their life more comfortable and happy.

On Saturday April  30th 2016. I will be doing a sponsored walk to help raise money  for the chosen 3 charities.

I will be walking from my home town of Walkerburn in the Scottish Borders, to the city of Edinburgh. This walk, going by google maps will be 31.94 miles and will take me over 10 hours. I will be doing this walk in 4inch high heel shoes

You may be asking yourself. why heels, those outfits and that distance?

The distance is to show the time and length that many trans people have to go through to become their true identity. This may be with acceptance from society or the support they get with  health care.

The high heels are to show the difficulties that there are while going through this process and also the pain that many trans women get when they try and fit into a female serotype.

To raise my goal of £5000 would be a dream. but anything no matter how large or small donated to these causes would be amazing.

I would like to thank everyone who reads this and donates.

Thank you all for your support and kind words

Lots of love

Jai Dara Latto
