Jacop's Epic SDR Adventure

Jacop is a fun loving 3 yr old that was born 3 months early resulting in cerebral palsy (CP). His CP affects his brain's ability to communicate with his muscles, mostly in his legs, making it difficult for him to walk. After 2 rounds of Botox injections in his calves and thighs along with multiple daily doses of a muscle relaxer, his Neurologist told us he is a great candidate for a surgical procedure where they would alter the nerve bundles in his spine reducing the spasticity in his legs permanently, therefore eliminating the need for either medication on a regular basis. We submitted the required paperwork and records to Children's Hospital: Center for Cerebral Palsy Spasticity in St. Louis where Dr. T.S. Park reviewed his case and informed us he would be the perfect candidate with predictions of independent ambulation in all environments along with improvements in balance and coordination. We have scheduled his "life changing" procedure for May 15th 2018 where we will travel to St. Louis for up to 2 weeks for surgery and intense inpatient physical therapy followed by intense physical therapy once we come home. Our insurance covers physical and occupational therapy but he will have exhausted his benefit before surgery and we will have to pay out-of-pocket for 3-4 sessions per week for up to a year after the procedure. Although insurance covers their part of the procedure and some of the therapy there are many expenses involved that are not covered such as travel, food, and lodging expenses while there. Jacop will have 4 month and 12 month follow up visits in St. Louis and 3-4 uncovered physical therapy sessions per week after returning home for up to a year.
