Mars Hill Church - Mediation Fund
$11,630 of $40k goal
We have received an offer of $40,000 in matching funds from an anonymous donor to help pay the costs of mediation, and to file and pursue the lawsuit if necessary.
ANY CONTRIBUTION TO THIS MEDIATION FUND WILL BE MATCHED.
A group of former Mars Hill Church members and donors are pursuing mediation with Mars Hill Church to accomplish a number of goals: full financial transparency, an acknowledgment of and some form of restitution for those harmed by Mars Hill, the release of the Board of Elders investigative report of the charges against the former Mars Hill pastor, Mark Driscoll, and an acknowledgment that Driscoll was found to be disqualified.
The group’s attorney, Brian Fahling, has prepared a RICO lawsuit filing based on issues of misappropriation of funds designated for specific purposes. Church leaders will be given 24 hours to respond before the lawsuit is filed.
Mars Hill previously indicated a desire to resolve the issues through mediation, but asked to see the RICO filing first. We will be prepared to file the lawsuit, but we agree mediation is preferable and are hopeful the parties can come to agreement quickly.
You can donate to this GoFundMe account or if you wish to send a check directly to one of the parties in this matter, you can make it out to Rob Smith or Brian Jacobsen, and include a note on the memo line indicating it is for the Mars Hill mediation matter.

In addition, any remaining funds would be used to help defend any ex-employee who is sued by Mars Hill Church for violating the terms of their non-disclosure agreement.
Once all matters are settled, any remaining balance in this fund will be shared between the advertised recipients of the Mars Hill Global Fund (Ethiopian and Indian pastors).
[Please note that this is to raise funds to pay the mediation and legal costs that are being incurred in resolving grievances with Mars Hill Church. It is not intended to be a fundraiser for anything else. But there may be funds left over, and if so they will be distributed as above.]
While I support the plaintiff's desire for transparency, I am personally not a plaintiff in any proposed lawsuits. I fully support that plaintiffs and encourage you to continue to support their effort. Sadly, other than pursuing a lawsuit, there appears to be no other way for donors to know where their money went.
All monies raised in this campaign has been paid to the lawyer for his work in attempting to bring the defendants to the mediation table, and for his preparation of the upcoming lawsuit.
Thank you to all who participated - I encourage you to please continue to support the effort to raise the total needed for the lawsuit. I certainly intend to support the effort as I am able.
Mars Hill Church held its last service without answering the many questions asked about financial transparency. Rather than come clean, they hope to shut the doors and walk away.
They left the shunning of Paul Petry intact. This was done despite 15 of the 22 elders who voted for his shunning repenting and asking forgiveness.
Please support this effort to pay for mediation or a lawsuit if necessary. Thank you.
Don Jones, I would be happy to have coffee with you. The reasons for the lawsuit have been clearly argued and are certainly biblical. Matters that are trivial should certainly be filtered through 1 Cor 6, and most of us that have been offended by other Christians in small ways do apply that passage to our situations. BUT.. 1 Cor 6 is not intended to allow serial abusers of people who use the name of Jesus to avoid accountability. Those in power at Mars Hill Church have not accounted for millions of dollars of money that was raised after an internal memo laid out the deceit. 1 Cor 6 does not cover offenses of that nature. In fact, abusers in the pulpit use 1 Cor 6 as a means of avoiding being held accountable for their abuse. That is a flagrant misuse of the bible.
I don't understand why a lawsuit is being filed. It is a direct violation of Scripture as found in 1 Cor. 6:1-8. Jesus also has some direct statements in Matt 5:40 and Matt 18:15-20. I can't fathom using RICO laws. Two wrongs will never make a right. The name of Jesus continues to be dishonored in the secular world. I am sure there were many individuals hurt in this and I am truly sorry for the pain that has been inflicted on many individuals. But this is not of God for God does not contradict Himself and He has spoken clearly in His revealed world. I have prayed and am praying for those who have been hurt through this that they might truly reflect Christ in their lives.
We're getting there guys!!!
