And that is why I want to send Pop to Africa.

Wait let's back up a little bit...
Hello my name is Mel DeVeaux and I am a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. And before graduating I was able to be apart of the UNC Women's Basketball program. As a part of the program I got the opportunity to travel all around the world; everywhere from the Czech-Republic, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, France, Great Britian, Whales, Ireland etc.  Upon returning to the states the first person I would always call was my grandfather. Pop (that's what everyone calls him) loves to learn about how people live in different parts of the world. More than learn about them, he lives to talk to people and learn about their life experiences. And I know that there is no better way to learn about a people than to see them in person.  And that is why I want to send Pop to Africa.

Alright now I'm back where I started.
Pop loves Africa.  Without fail, every time he comes over to my house he asks if "I can put him on a movie about Africa."  I do not know what I would do without Netflix.  I ran out of movies I know about Africa a long time ago. Pop has narcolepsy which is a neurological disorder that causes him to fall asleep at any moment.  But when he is watching something on Africa he will do anything in his power to stay awake-whether he has to drink 20 bottles of water or turn on all the fans in the room. Just watching it on television excites him, I can only imagine how seeing it person would affect him.

Pop turned 80 years old this past year and I would love to be able to send him to Africa while he is still willing and able. I made this GoFundMe account to help pay for his plane ticket and living expenses. It would mean the world to me to be able to see the look on Pop's face when he is finally able to step foot on the ground in South Africa. Pop has always talked about going to Africa but I don't think he ever thought about it being a reality.

I am beyond thankful to anyone who would even read this story, let alone give a donation. My grandfather is a 80 year old man that has lived through the Great Depression, share cropping, segregation, Jim Crow, etc. but he still has a great amount of hope and love left in him. And I would love to be able to give back to him and show him how much I truly appreciate him by sending him to Africa.
