Soren's Journey

Soren
On July 1, 2014, Soren suffered a near drowning.  That day we swam earlier and I said, "I missed you so much yesterday.  I never want to be without you.  I keep you forever and ever."

An hour later, we came in and ate tacos.  He dropped lettuce down the blue swimsuit life jacket he never took off.  He wanted it off.  I left him inside with his aunt as he played trucks.  I went outside in case he came out.  I went inside for something, he must have snuck out when I wasn't looking.  I went back outside in case he came out.  When his mom came home I went in to get him.  He wasn't there.

I ran and called looking for him, checked the pool, but I didn't see him.  I ran around the house, out in the street, and then my heart sank, and I said, "no, no, no."  I ran back to the pool and found him at the bottom against the wall.  I jumped in and pulled him out. I started CPR.

It took the Emt's to get his heart started.  He survived, but suffers from neurological damage from the lack of oxygen.  This once lively, bright, humorous, little boy, my little best friend who loves hot dogs, french fries, tomatoes, chick peas, and doritos, can no longer eat, walk, talk, and has a cortical vision impairment.

It's been two long hard years on his journey.  He was laughing and imititating last year as well as trying to stand.  He has regressed.

He is still in there.  He does things he used to, like making fun of his dad, his humor is the same, he just expresses it differently.  His cognition and memory are in tact.  We strive every day to find innovative ways to bring him out of his barriers.

We have already gone through $30,000.00 of non-traditional therapies that his insurance doesn't cover.  We have done and still do chiropractic care, functional neurology, acupuncture, speech therapy, the brain plasticity center in Orlando, and equine therapy.  We have purchased a crawler, tumblers, corner chair, gait trainers, upsee, swing, essential oils, syringes for his tube feeds, and nutrional supplements.

He is now attending school at the Watson Institute.  He starts hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy on October 3, 2016.  Each session is $65.00 and it is unforseen how many sessions we are going to need.  The usual protocol is 45 consecutive sessions.

We are in much need of a wheel chair van.  He is getting very tall and heavy.  He barely fits in the car and is difficult to get him in and out of.   We also have to make renovations to make the house more accessible for him, such as wheelchair exits and a room for all of his equipment.  I have hoped through these two years that he would be whole again and we wouldn't need these things.

We have gone through many processes along this Soren's journey.  My prayer always, is that God grants his miracle and he will rise and walk.  I claim that Soren is healed.  That there is no more brain damage.  Our blessings are that his neurological pathways are still connected-they are just "kinked".   We are blessed that he responds to input and with all my heart I know he can overcome this.

Thank you for reading his story.  We appreciate any donations you give.  More so, we appreciate your prayers and moral support!  I appreciate any advice or information to any type of therapy!  Your generous hearts touch us deeply.

Love and God bless,
Soren's family
