Open Outcry Trading Club

£20,000 will enable Open Outcry Trading Club to offer this ground breaking mental maths project to five schools at no cost. This includes personalised trading jackets, IT, trading cards and tutors.

Numbers are the building blocks of life whether it be the structure of DNA, understanding the universe or even basic binary for the development of the most sophisticated computer systems.

We use maths in our lives every day so having the skill to mentally process numbers is vitally important. Unfortunately this skill is being made redundant by computers in one form or another however computers still need direction.


My name is Blayne Jackson and along with around two and a half thousand other people we waved our arms, shouted at the tops of our voices and made complex mental calculations.

This  communication method was called Open Outcry and was practiced at a place called LIFFE otherwise know as the London International Financial Futures Exchange.

I learnt so much on the trading floor whilst gaining a huge amount of confidence, knowledge about the financial environment around me and worked in the most exciting workplace one could ever imagine.

The project will be starting at a senior school in Tonbridge, Kent and use Open Outcry as a means to engage children and adults alike in this exciting use of mental maths. We will also introduce a supporting program that will enhance the project by introducing the fundamentals of Futures and Options and why these are used by companies we engage with daily.

We also intend to invite senior representitives from some the worlds most prominent banking institutions to see the project in action. In addition to this an inter school league similar to programs in the US and Canada will be developed.


This program will not only make mental maths fun but also provide a platform for instilling confidence, learning about everyday financial mechanisms and  provide the students the opportunity to get exposure for a career path that may not be accessable otherwise.
