The Glens Falls Area Youth Center is attempting to replace $50,000 in revenue lost, due to inadequate money available from a typically reliable funding source.
The Youth Center was founded in 1968 and is a drop-in facility for youngsters in 5th to 12th grades. Since our target population is disadvantaged adolescents, all programs are FREE of charge. Currently, we offer services for twenty-three hundred young people.
Each child is unique in many ways, but they all share certain common characteristics. Often times their names carry no clout, they are unwanted and unaccepted in most social settings, and left out of extracurricular school functions. Many adults in their lives have very low expectations for their futures.
We furnish a safe, well-supervised environment where kids can enjoy their leisure time, have meaningful social interaction and feel like that are an important part of the community.
Our programs include:
Recreation: Arts & Crafts, Games, Athletics (teams, leagues, & pick-up contests), Weight training, Aerobic instruction, Yoga, Music, and a place just to hangout and talk with friends.
Education: Tutoring assistance, Computer instruction, Guest speakers (variety of topics), Library, Gardening,
Summer Education Camp: - A reading, math, recreation and nutrition experience. (4th graders headed into the 5th grade.)
Youth Services: After school snack (fresh fruit, vegetables, and baked goods), Daily Meals, and Hygiene Assistance.
The Center is open year round, Monday-Friday, Saturdays (when school is in session). Anyone can participate, regardless of where they reside.
