Help us send Scott and Austin to the Wheelchair Hockey Worlds in Italy!

Scott Haycock and Austin Merkley, of the OPWHL (Ottawa Power Wheelchair Hockey League), have been selected as members of Team Canada and will compete at the 2018 World Championships from September 24th to October 1st in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy.

Scott and Austin will incur costs for airfare, accommodations, meals, medical equipment rentals and attendant care in the amount of $5,000 each.

Contributing to this GoFundMe campaign will allow Scott and Austin to compete on the PowerHockey world stage, and provide an opportunity that individuals with disabilities rarely experience due to financial and physical barriers.  All contributors will receive an income tax receipt.

Scott and Austin, along with Ottawa coach Alex Lalonde,  will join para-athletes from Toronto and Calgary, chosen to represent Canada at the IWAS (International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports) World Championships.  Participating nations include The Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Australia, Germany and Canada.

Power Wheelchair Hockey is an adapted sport for persons who use an electric wheelchair for mobility in their daily lives.

This is the first time in history that a team from North America will compete in this event and is the next step towards having PowerHockey recognized at the Paralympics.

Help us put Team Canada on the PowerHockey world stage!

Help us send Scott and Austin to Italy!

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported this amazing opportunity for the sport we love, PowerHockey!

Scott, Austin and Alex depart this Saturday for the 2018 World Championship!

CEWHA Players and Supporters

In a few days, the CEWHA team will not only compete on the World Stage at the IWAS Power Chair Hockey World Championships (Sept 26 to 30, 2018) but you will be making history every moment. For each player and coach, you will be the first to ever compete in a World Championship representing Canada and this year representing North America.

The start of the first game, first save, first shot, first goal, first penalty, first celebration, etc. will all be history in the making. Years from now, people will look back and you will be the names and faces remembered and the statistics and records will reflect this.

Besides history, our sport is all about fun, the highest of sportsmanship, competition, relationships, determination and advancement of the sport. Yes, each player and coach will be watched and evaluated but not as a Toronto, Ottawa or Calgary player but as a Canadian Team Member. Yes, there is a lot riding on your shoulders but in this inauguration year, it will all be about learning the Power Chair World Rules and adapting at the championships and in passing your knowledge onto the next teams that will compete. Players, Coaches, Attendants & Supporters you are the Canadian Power Chair Ambassadors. We know you will make us proud!

This participation comes only from vision. Paul Desaulniers & others wanted Canada at this championship and they did everything in their power to make it happen. Deliver upon their dream!
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the CEWHA, we wish you all the best in competing and learning more what it takes to compete on the World Stage. We will all be rooting for you!

To the parents, supporters and sponsors, we thank you for your continued support. Go Team Canada Go!

Sincerely,
Brian Edwards,
Chairman
