You see my 14 year old daughter has a condition known as Diabetes Insipidous. DI is controlled with a daily medication Desmopressin, weekly/monthly sodium checks, and watching intake (food) and output (urine).
During hot months and times of illness hospitillizations occur more frequently due to loss of fluid through sweat, diarrhea, ECT causing her sodium to rise.
My daughter not only has DI she has: panhypopituiyarism, symptoms of hypotonic cerebral palsy, parietal seizures, and is non-mobile/verbal. She cannot tell me mommy I'm thirsty or don't feel right. I have to watch for signs and symptoms of dehydration which isn't always easy.
The I-STAT (ABBOTT) works with just a tiny bit of blood and allows for providers and parents to monitor sodium levels so that they may intervene before a hospitlization becomes necessary. Which would greatly improve quality of life and allow for quality family time as well.
This machine is very costly at just about $10,000, plus cartridges at $215.00 A month, and other supplies at $300.00.
Insurance will not pay a penny. This is completely out of pocket.
My goal is to raise enough to cover the machine and cartridges for months to come.
