Isaac's Support

My older brother Isaac Leverty was just 29 years old when he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. In September of 2017 Isaac, his girlfriend at the time, and their two children were in a traffic collision and sent to Mat Su Regional to be checked out. The kids were fine, his girlfriend was okay but Isaac was having abdominal pains so they took xrays from where the seatbelt had been. Xrays revealed a mass in his colon and spots on his liver. On October 19th he got the call with the biopsy result testing positive for cancer. A referral was sent to oncology and his follow up was scheduled for the 23rd. A chemo port and an ostomy bad were placed in December. Due to complications with the ostomy bag, about 6 days later he went back into surgery. Unfortunately there were still complications after the second surgery so they decided to schedule him for a third. After consulting with the surgeon Isaac agreed with their consensus and was put on a liquid diet and continued multiple x-rays over the next 48 hours until there was a definitive answer whether the major bowel resection is necessary.
Isaac started a facebook page called Isaac Leverty - One Day At A Time, this was his update on Jan 12th, feel free to follow his page.
"So today I had an appointment, blood draw and visit with Dr. Anu my Oncologist at ANMC. Good news! The tumors are starting to shrink with the chemo. Right now we are taking the most aggressive approach available. A chemo cocktail of 6 different drugs with in clinic infusions as well as 72 hour continuous infusion from a pump I can carry along with me. Side effects are tolerable at this point...some loss of appetite (but they prescribed Marinol today) fatigue & mild insomnia, aches and pains & nausea (got drugs for that too) the strange one is the chemo is causing my face to break out like I just hit puberity, could be worse side effects so I'll just keep zapping the zits with the acne cream. Things are going well!"
Two months into chemotherapy, he had his 5th infusion on the 13th of Feburary 2018. At that appointment the CT and xray came back showing his mass has went from 5cm to 3.5cm and the spots on his liver shrunk significantly. He had changed his diet knocking out all of the bad stuff, started juicing and even making his own chaga tea.
Further into chemotherapy treatment they had found signs of cancer in his lung. Isaac has been very optimistic and thankful for his family and friends helping him with rides, support, love and care. Things have been getting better, chemo has been helping but he still has a while longer to go. Since we live in the valley and 99% of his appointments and treatments are in Anchorage, Isaac has only been able to work one day a week at his job to try help people with gas money, take care of his 4 year old daughter and take care of himself. Like everyone, we have bills to pay so that's why I've created this GoFundMe account for my brother. I will keep everyone updated on his progress, or you can follow his facebook page One Day At A Time, but in the mean time anything will help. Isaac, myself and our family would greatly appreciate anything you can offer. If its donations, rides to his appointments or just your support. Thank you so much for reading.
