Isaac Lutzko Fundraiser

Introduction
Isaac Lutzko was a strong, healthy, 20-year-old university student, when the unimaginable happened. On November 10, 2018, while visiting his sister in Montreal with his dad, Isaac suffered a stroke. While this was shocking in itself, what happened next was terrifying… after being admitted to hospital in Montreal, doctors found that Isaac’s stroke had been caused by a severe case of endocarditis, that was attacking his heart. To complicate matters, Isaac had an undiagnosed heart malformation, which made it more susceptible to infection.

48 hours after his stroke, Isaac underwent open heart surgery to replace two valves in his heart, and to rebuild half his heart which had been significantly damaged by the infection. Isaac then had an inflammatory reaction and what was supposed to be a six-hour surgery, turned into 11 hours of numerous surgeons working to save his organs. It was literally, a fight for his life.
 
What Lies Ahead for Isaac
Thanks to many talented doctors, nurses and medical staff at CHUM Hospital in Montreal, and the prayers of many, many people, Isaac miraculously survived the surgery. Isaac has a fighting spirit, but… he has a long road ahead. The doctors have told his family that he will have a “marathon recovery process.” There will be weeks of recovery from the surgery, including dialysis (his kidneys were also damaged from the inflammatory reaction), as well as therapies to help him regain language and reasoning skills he has lost due to the stroke.

We need your help to support Isaac and his family through the next weeks and months of recovery and therapies that lie ahead.

How Donations Will Be Used
Firstly, donations will be used to cover expenses incurred by the Lutzko family while staying in Montreal (plane tickets, meal and hotel costs). Isaac’s mom, Heather, remains in Montreal with Isaac, as he continues to recover from his surgery. It is not known at this time when Isaac and Heather will return to Calgary.

Secondly, funds will be given directly to Isaac to reimburse him his University tuition for this semester. Isaac paid his own tuition this fall, and we would like to help him recover these costs.

Thirdly, donations will be used to help support the Lutzko family over the next months, as we don’t know when Heather will be able to return to work.
