Robotics Program: Iron Wolves #2709

Tax deductible
We are the Perspectives IIT/Math & Science Academy #2709 Iron Wolves.  We are a FIRST Robotics Team.  We have been participating for about 6 years.  Our team consists of predominantly African-American team members, who are interested in engineering and STEM related fields.  We work on team work, engineering principles, and mechanical design.  These scholars work long hours after school and on weekends before, during, and after the 6-week build season,

FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams of high school students and mentors work during a six-week period to build game-playing robots that weigh up to 120 pounds (54 kg).

The Iron Wolves #2709 compete against teams that have thousands of dollars invested in machines and equipment to assist building the robot.  They have funding to build 2 robots, 1 for competition & 1 to practice with.  They can bring a large 20-50 player team to competitions.

The Iron Wolves Den is a modest workshop of a miter saw, table saw, drill press, and mini-band saw.  We are able to build 1 competitive robot, usually from recycled or outdated parts from past robots.  We are limited in practice time because of it.  This limits our ability to make modifications and redesigns which are critical in the engineering process.  We are only able to bring a skeleton crew to our competitions.

The Iron Wolves #2709 will use these generous funds to acquire equipment to build  with (milling machine & welding equipment).  We will use the funds to take more players to the competitions.  We will also use it to pay for entrance fees for the competitions.

The most important use of these funds is that we will be able to continue to provide STEM & engineering opportunities for urban scholars with limited access to these STEM principles and experiences.  Our program is in trouble of being able to maintain its functionality.  With budget cuts as well as limited funding  from the State of Illinois, Chicago Public Schools, and our other sponsors, the Iron Wolves #2709 are looking for these funds to not only maintain, but launch our program into a bright future.

Within Perspectives Charter School, we have 26 ADL Principles that guide ourselves & prepare us for life after school.  One of those principles is "Show Gratitiude."  We will show our gratitude by adding all donors to our signage in our Pit Area during competitions and within our Iron Wolves Den at school.  Any donor who funds over $1000 will be able to come to a private preview of the robot after our build season at our school, if they are in the Chicago Area at the time.  We can also add your logo or name to our robot within competition guidelines.  Before our matches you will be included in our team announcement.
