On November 21, 2014 San Francisco high rise window cleaner Pedro Perez fell from the top of an 11 story building at the corner of California and Montgomery Streets in San Francisco. Miraculously, by the grace of God, the power of life or what one chooses to believe, Pedro survived the fall by landing on the back of a moving car. He was gravely injured, however, suffering extensive brain trauma , fracturing his pelvis, breaking his arm, rupturing an artery in his right arm, and deeply hemorrhaging internally.

Pedro’s recovery has begun, and despite the sheer miracle that he has begun conversing with others and that the strength of his memory is returning, his road to recovery will be a long and arduous one. Pedro, age 58, is unable to work and support his family and it is unclear when or how he will even be able to walk again. Yet he was the principle bread winner of his family in the ever-increasingly expensive Bay Area. His wife works a night job at a factory in the East Bay and his eldest daughter, 19, has quit her college studies in order to support the family. His other daughters, ages 16 and 11 cannot and should not be expected do the same.

The Perez family is in urgent need of financial assistance during his recovery. It is unknown whether he will be able to return to work at all, and though it is a miracle that this would even be a prospect, it will be a long time until the future is certain. Pedro and his family are asking for donations so that they can weather this difficult period amongst ever increasing expenses and ever increasing uncertainty so that a brighter future for the entire Perez family can be created from this very dark and difficult situation.

Our goal is for the supplemental difference between one year of Pedro's wages and the worker's compensation payments for the year.   In 2013 Pedro made about $44,000 and his workers compensation payments will be about $2000 a month or $24,000 a year.  So the goal is to make $20,000.   Any and all donations are greatly appreciated to make or even surpass this goal.

It has been a year since the incredible outpouring of support for window cleaner Pedro Perez after he miraculously survived falling from the top of an 11-story building in the San Francisco Financial District. Pedro and his family wish to provide an update on his status and to send their gratitude to everyone for all the donations and expressions of love and concern. As you can imagine, it has been a long and trying year for Pedro and his family, filled with a lot of obstacles and difficult, but well-earned, accomplishments.

It is with great relief, pleasure, and some disbelief that we can say that Pedro is doing quite well. He is back home after enduring numerous surgeries and some infections, and he is gradually becoming more and more independently ambulatory. Currently with the help of a walker, and gradually, more with the help of a cane, he is able to move around the house and even go up and down the stairs to go outside, with some assistance. He has physical therapy daily, and has aspirations to return to work in some capacity once the time is right.

Pedro's wife is working full time and helps Pedro around the house. His eldest daughter continues to pursue her studies as a healthcare professional while working part-time as a home care assistant and taking on a lot of the duties at home. She also takes on a great deal of the numerous administrative necessities that require attention. His second daughter will graduate from high school in 2016 and also plans to jump into the medical field. The youngest, who is now 12 continues to do well in school too. They are all very happy and grateful to be home together for the holidays.

It is because of everyone's selfless donations that the Perez family has been able to survive with minimal disruption and without financial preoccupations. Pedro's family wishes to thank all the reporters and news outlets for their continued interest in Pedro's recovery and for their sensitivity to the Perez family's need for privacy and calm. And the Perez family wishes to thank all the medical and home care personnel that have been with the family, day in and day out, since day one of this tragedy.

At present, Pedro and his family wish for continued privacy. We look forward to the Spring when we plan to throw a big party to give thanks in person to anyone who has helped Pedro take steps on his road to recovery and to celebrate this miracle together. Thanks for your continued interest in Pedro!
Happy Holidays and safe and successful New year everyone!
Thank you all!
