What Are We Doing:

A few months ago we finished our first successful campaign on GoFundMe.  We where able to raise over $1,100 for The Spectrum Academy.  https://www.gofundme.com/help-spectrum-academy-with-ipads  This time we are looking to support The Sharing Place.

In May of 2018 The Martin Jahnsen Foundation partnered with The Sharing Place to help with an “LED make over".  We converted their 6000+ sq ft facility to all LED lighting.  This meant that The Sharing Place was going to see a 75% drop in their energy usage the minute we were done.  This translates to a huge savings each month for them.   During our “LED makeover” we found that The Sharing Place could also benefit from an iPad upgrade.  The Sharing Place currently has very old iPads, but new iPads could be used for:

- Group coordinator use for related grief discussions/counseling
- Complete interviews with new families and collect the necessary paperwork digitally
- Review of documents in an outreach group setting and make notes
- Payment processor at fundraisers
- Other operational uses to make them more efficient

The Martin Jahnsen Foundation has once again partnered with a worthy non-profit in the hopes of reaching a goal of providing iPads to help The Sharing Place.  The Sharing Place provide a safe and caring environment for grieving children, teens, and their families.  This is a great opportunity to help The Sharing Place to get the iPads they they could use.

About The Martin Jahnsen Foundation:

The Martin Jahnsen Foundation was created after the death of Martin Jahnsen who loved helping people.  Whether someone he knew or a complete stranger he was always willing to give a hand to this in need.  A software engineer in his career he knew early on that technology had an amazing way of connecting people and helping humanity reach new heights.  Technology continues to open up new worlds to every type of person.  Studies have shown that technology continues to be the vehicle to help those with disabilities or those in need.

The Martin Jahnsen Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit and was started to help those who can benefit from technology, but struggle to afford it. Our goal is to make an impact through the use of technology making a college degree or a better job attainable, someone’s day a little better, their life a little easier and their struggles a little less.

About The Sharing Place:

Since 1993, The Sharing Place has been fulfilling its mission to “provide a safe and caring environment for grieving children, teens, and their families to share their feelings while healing themselves.” This is achieved through a support group model that emphasizes acknowledging any and all feelings related to grief, connection with others experiencing grief, and channeling feelings through art, play, and discussion. All of this is conducted in a comfortable and warm renovated home in Salt Lake City.

The Sharing Place was founded when a determined young mother, Chris Chytraus, sought help for her two children after their father died. She soon discovered there was a lack of resources in the Salt Lake City area for grieving children. With the help of her children’s therapist, Nancy Reiser, The Sharing Place grief support groups were created. The Sharing Place has provided a safe haven to grieving families since 1993, providing hope not only to Chris and her children but to thousands of others their journey has touched.

Today, The Sharing Place hosts 24 age-appropriate grief support groups for children ages 3-18. Parents also meet separately in groups designed to meet their needs. Each group is led by a coordinator and a number of volunteers who have completed extensive training.

As the program has grown over the years, requests for services has also grown. To meet demand, The Sharing Place partners with agencies and schools across the Wasatch Front to improve understanding of the impact the death of a loved one can have at different stages of life. In addition, The Sharing Place now holds grief groups off-site, extending our services to reach more vulnerable families who can benefit from the opportunity to share their feelings, experiences, and memories.
