Into the Ring with Ford

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who came out on Friday, November 9 to our standing-room-only fundraiser at Ryerson University. We raised $3,000 that night, so we have reached our overall goal! The community needs are still high, though, and this money is being split between them. So we will keep the GoFundMe page open until December 1.

Shiri Pasternak has withdrawn the on-line donations that have come in so far and presented these funds (+ the cash donations from the fundraiser) in person to the Chiefs on November 10. She will withdraw the online funds raised between Nov. 10 - Dec. 1 the day after the donations page closes and send a cheque to the communities.



With the discovery of large chromite deposits, the homelands of Neskantaga and Eabametoong First Nations in northern Ontario are now highly sought after. Extracting the chromite is a massive project that will open up these lands for the first time; threatening the rivers, fish, wildlife and their very way of life. The Ford government continues to ignore First Nations and is desperate to see this Northern Ontario mega project go ahead. Premier Doug Ford has vowed to open up the Ring of Fire to extraction even if he has to “hop on that bulldozer" himself.

But the communities on these frontlines are holding Ford accountable to Indigenous laws in their territory. And they need your support to help pay for legal support, fund meetings in the territory to strengthen alliances, and build capacity to mount a public campaign to stop unwanted development on their territories.

All proceeds raised here will go to the Neskantaga and Eabametoong First Nations. Yellowhead will distribute these funds directly to communities.
