Internat'l Punk Tome Research Fund
$1,502 of $5,000 goal
This new book is going to explore the development of punk rock outside the U.K. & U.S. We're very familiar with the narrative that includes Iggy, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, and the Clash, but punk bled across borders all over the world and it's time to tell the stories of the genre's vibrant mutations in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and Australia.
The good news is Rowman & Littlefield Publishing has already committed to releasing this near 400 page tome come Fall of 2017. This thing is happening! The not-so-good news is I need some lettuce to conduct proper research so I can make the book as amazing as possible. Rowman & Littlefield is an academic publisher and as such did not give me a big Oprah-style advance to write this volume (all my payment comes via sales royalties much later).
I can get plenty accomplished where I am right now but certain documents, certain records, even certain people can only be accessed if I fly to other continents. I must also cover the costs of translators and photo licensing.
The breakdown, roughly:
$3k - airfare to Europe, Asia, & South America
$600 - hotel fees
$700 - translators
$700 - photo licensing
I've been engrossed in all kinds of international punk for years and I'm thrilled to have an opportunity to write a book about so many exciting artists and their art. Any amount you can contribute, even a dollar, will be deeply appreciated. No matter what total I wind up with here the book is coming out, I can't wait for you to read it, hopefully this drive will help create exactly what I envision.
Check out the rewards tiers below and thanks for your consideration. Shalom.
I'm enormously grateful for this family member, who didn't feel comfortable having their name on this page. Of course, if you look at the side bar of donators, you'll see plenty of aliases and/or phony monikers. No, that is not the real "Tex" Cobb, nor is that the real James Bond (ICYMI: James Bond is a fictional being). You can put anything as your display name---I'll still receive the correct info privately after you donate.
So if you're on the fence about contributing because you fear putting your name out there / in there / on top, just use a fake. I'll still receive your proper contact info, none of which is listed at any point publicly on the page.
Thanks again for your consideration and support. Every single globule means the world.
