International Relocation Fund
Donation protected
Since Brexit, Dana and I have been planning a relocation from the UK to the European Union. We have raised some of the funds but are still woefully short of meeting the moving costs for even a fraction of our belongings, let alone the deposit and advance rent on a place to stay. We will also need miscellaneous travel costs, including potentially for a job interview and choosing accommodation.
When will we be moving?
We hope to have enough money raised to start applying for jobs sometime this summer, with an eye to moving before the end of the year.
Why is this important for us?
Dana is an EU citizen, whilst I am British. The UK already has a bad track record with regards to the rights of non-British residents, including those married to UK citizens. On the other hand the EU guarantees the right to residence to spouses of EU citizens.
In our chosen home country we plan to work towards full integration and citizenship, so that we will finally hold passports to the same land, securing our future together.
Free gift economy
We are already in the process of gifting a large portion of our dvds, cds, books and furniture to friends, family the local freecycle movement and local charity shops. We need to free ourselves of most belongings to make the move more affordable and easier. We like the idea of our belongings enriching the lives of our friends and the local community. We welcome donations from those that appreciate our generosity and everyone else willing to help.
Perks
We plan to use some of our possessions as optional limited edition perks for those that donate over certain amounts. Details of these will be announced in updates, so stay tuned.
Other means of raising funds
We will hopefully be topping up the total with money we have managed to save from our monthly budget. This will largely depend on Dana's unpredictable self employed earnings and the amount of unexpected expenditures incurred in any given month.
