Insulin pump for Christmas
Dear all,
I'm a single mom of two children who have both been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. My son who is 14 now was diagnosed at the age of 9 and my daughter was diagnosed this year, she is 15. Unfortunately the Portuguese health care system doesn´t provide insulin pumps to all children. Only children under the age of 5 get a pump.
Like all parents of diabetic children and adult diabetic patients know, an insulin pump helps you to better manage your disease and improves your quality of life overall.
They now prick their fingers about 6 times a day (on a good day) and inject insulin with a needle about as many times. That is a minimum of 360 pricks a month.
When I asked them what they wanted for Christmas, they both said a pump. No Xbox, PlayStation or other toys. They want an insulin pump, which I can't afford. A pump costs between €3500 to €4000 euro. Please, please help me give my babies their dream Christmas present and a better and easier way to manage their disease and have a normal life which is what they want most in the world.
Thanks very much for your time and looking to hear from you soon.
