8-2-16: My name is Katie; I’m a friend of Wendy Baird and she needs all of our help to rebuild her business. Wendy has had a branding and design firm, insight180, in historic Ellicott City for more than 16 years and it is an integral part of the community in Howard County and beyond.

As you’ve probably all seen by now, Ellicott City was devastated by what some are calling a 1000-year-flood. This extreme weather event, without warning, took out sidewalks and infrastructure and hit Wendy’s office very hard. She lost just about everything. When they allowed her in her space for 10 minutes to assess and take out what they could carry on their laps, she snapped this picture of her planter — about the only thing left standing — which was more than 40 yards away from her door where it usually sat.

Anyone who knows Wendy knows that she is someone who continually gives back. Whether its through pro bono design services, her concerts, cabaret and singing events that have raised funds for nonprofits, serving on local boards, fundraising and volunteering. Right now she’s trying to coordinate fundraising efforts for other EC businesses whose inventory and infrastructure were destroyed. But frankly, she is going to need a lot of help herself. Even though she has insurance, it does not cover flood damage. While we don’t yet know the full extent of the damages, all of her computer workstations and furnishings were destroyed. She’s working on setting up temporary or virtual space for her and her four employees.

Wendy can’t do this alone and neither can we, but together we can help ease the burden of this tragic event. Please be assured that all of this fund will go to Wendy Baird and no one else. We will transfer ownership to her as soon as possible. Thank you for helping to lighten her load!
