On March 15th, while performing a training exercise, Capt. David Davis was injured and sustained severe burns to over 30% of his body. Capt. Thank you again to everyone for all the donations and support. DD is still recovering at UAB. We hope to have more updates soon on his progress and hopefully his release date. Per the Go Fund Me site we need to make sure everyone is aware that this campaign was started by the Opelika Firefighters Association to raise money for David Davis. I am a member and Vice President of the Association. David is a co worker and member of the Association. The Opelika Firefighters Association will be the ones withdrawing the funds from this campaign and delivering the funds by check to David along with funds from other fundraising events.

DD had surgery yesterday. The surgeon performed skin grafts on his arms and hands. The surgery went well and he is back in his room recovering. Its possible he may need another graft on his hands but the surgeon doesn’t think he will need any more on his arms. DD continues to be in good spirits. Hopefully he will only be in the hospital for a short while longer and back to work before you know it. There is still a though road ahead and several more hurdles to get over but so far everything is going better then expected.

Thank you again to everyone who has donated so far. I was able to visit with DD yesterday. He is still in great spirits and has the best attitude you could Imagine. The doctors removed his wraps yesterday and assessed the condition of his arms and hands. They were planning to go over his surgery with him and his family last night and get ready for surgery today. Please continue to keep him and his family in your prayers as he undergoes surgery today. The road ahead of DD is going to be a long and hard one, but there is no one more determined to see it through then he is. DD is going to need all the support he can get so please continue to share, pray, and donate. We hope to have more updates after his surgery today.

DD is continuing to improve. His PT came in to assess his range of motion and said he's already a week and a half ahead of others in his condition. Grafting surgery is on Tuesday and Lord-willing, he'll be released to go home for recovery 5-7 days after. He want’s to say thank you for all the calls, texts and messages and wishes he could reply to each of them right now. Says he’s ready to get better so he can get back to work.

Thank you to everyone that has reached out to lend a hand. There’s still a long road ahead.
