Indigenous Convocation for Future Existence

On November 22nd, the Mancomunidad of Indigenous Communities that live along the Quiquibey, Tuichi, and Beni Rivers in the Bolivian Amazon are holding a gathering to bring these 17 communities (which comprise 6 of Bolivia's 36 recognized autonomous nations) together in order to discuss, inform, and reaffirm their stance towards the pressing issues that threaten their existence in their territories and livelihoods. The Bolivian government has decided to build two mega hydroelectric projects- Chepete and El Bala, that could flood the  territory of these 6 indigenous nations including Moseten, Tsimane, Esse Ejja, Leco, Tacana, and Uchupiamona.

Every penny raised here in the next five days will go directly towards covering the costs of organizing the event, and will be used to cover the following expenses:
- Gas to fuel the motorized canoes to transport villagers to and from the gathering (they must travel up to eight hours upstream the Quiquibey River)
- Food and water to feed the event's indigenous and non-indigenous attendees threatened by the dam proposals.
- Other event/ritual materials such as coca leaves, tarps, etc. 

If we raise more than we need, any money left over will help the Mancomunidad continue in their efforts to represent these communities, or continue to bring them updates about the actions of the government with respect to these projects. 

Even the smallest contribution would go an extremely long way for these communities, because they do not possess the resources to travel regularly along these rivers. These recognized nations, including Tacana, Moseten, Tsimane, Uchupiamona, and Ese'e'jja indigenous groups, possess the constitutional right to determine the future of their territory and their families. Let us help to empower them to take the first step in that process, and let them know that around the world there are people who care about their existence, and who support their cause.

El 22 de Noviembre, la Mancomunidad de Comunidades Indigenas  que viven en las orillas del Río Quiquibey, Beni, y Tuichi se congregarán con sus 17 comunidades,  de 6 naciones indígenas amazónicas para informar, discutir, y reafirmar su solidaridad y posición frente a las amenazas a su existencia en sus territorios y su manera de vivir, con la polémica decisión del gobierno de Bolivia, de construir los mega proyectos hídroélectricos Chepete y el Bala, que podrían inundar el territorio de 6 naciones Moseten, Tsimane, Esse Ejja, Leco, Tacana, y Uchupiamona. 

Cada dólar recaudado aquí en los próximos cinco días cubrirá directamente los costos de organizar el evento, que incluyen:
- Combustible para el transporte de los miembros de las comunidades de sus pueblos al evento y también su retorno a sus comunidades
- Alimento y agua para todos los asistentes indígenas y no indígenas amenazados por las mega hidroeléctricos Chepete y el Bala.
- Otros costos del evento o de rituales culturales como ojas de coca,  lonas, etcetera.

Si recaudamos más que necesitamos, los fondos extras irán para que la Mancomunidad pueda continuar sus esfuerzos de representar a estas comunidades, o para llegar con información a las comunidades sobre las acciones del gobierno boliviano respecto a estos proyectos. 

Incluso la contribución más pequeña es una gran ayuda para las comunidades que están amenazadas de perderlo todo, porque no poseen los recursos para poder viajar por el río.  Estos pueblos indígenas como Tacana, Moseten, Tsimane, Lecos, Uchupiamona, y Ese'ejja, tienen derecho constitucional a la autodeterminación. Por favor, ayudemos a empoderarlos a tomar el primer paso en ese proceso, y háganles saber que en todas partes del mundo hay gente que le importa su existencia y que apoyan su causa.
