The Village project
THE VILLAGE PROJECT
- Supporting remote communities
- Creating employment
- To give every child the gift of education
- Connecting communities
Hi, Taran Jenkins and Mukesh Joshi here. We are reaching out to other passionate individuals like you, to step up and get involved in a life-changing project.
Our dream is to improve the lives of many village men, women and children. We aim to help the local people who have been living on this land for over 60,000 years and encourage those who have left due to harsh living conditions, to return.
These lands are some of the most organic areas on this planet, clean air, fresh water and a view that will captivate you for years.
To reach our target of 70,000 AUD we need your help! So please read on and if you feel inspired, like we do, dig deep and get involved, every $1 count.
In 2015 Mukesh Joshi and I were trekking in North India when we happened to stumble upon a very remote Village in the foothills of the Himalayas. The villagers welcomed us warmly with a tasty home cooked meal and a freshly brewed chai. We decided to extend our stay and learn about local people and their culture.

After two weeks of camping and exploring the village we felt deeply connected to these beautiful people and the land. We soon realised going on with ‘life as usual’ wasn’t an option, we felt inspired to make this remote area one of our retreat locations and connect communities from all over the world.
After many wonderful trips to this area, we noticed the beauty is equally meet with many harsh realities. We aim to improve the lively hood of these wonderful people and keep their strong culture alive.
Originally we were going to self-fund this project, but unfortunately, we are far from our goal of $70,000. We will personally pay for all of our travel expenses and time away from work. All of the funds raised will be allocated to the village project.

STAGE ONE AUD 7,000
While staying in the village, I was given the bedroom of a beautiful 17-year-old girl named Himanshi. I later discovered for the past six years; she makes a 3-hour journey just to receive an education. In 2018 Himanchi would like to start a university degree.
We are now funding and supporting Himanshi to study and live in a nearby town from her Village. I am hoping that we can raise enough funds for her to attend university for the next three- four-years and live comfortably nearby.
Himanshi is now an official employee of Creating Space Yoga Retreats and will be assisting the team on every Himalayan Retreat.

STAGE TWO AUD 50,000
We aim to build a sustainable school and help children from low-income/poverty families attain access to a high-quality education.
Most Indian schools have a strong focus on academic subjects with little scope for creativity and no extra-curricular activities. There are no measures in place for checking the quality, performance and development that these children are receiving nor is the curriculum local specific or related to day to day life.
We want to create a safe space where the children enjoy learning, dare to dream, think independently and achieve their goals and desires. We want to incorporate classes such as yoga, meditation, crafts, music, dance and other vocational activities.
We will highly encourage all children near or far, to attend our school, regardless of gender, caste or religion.
STAGE THREE AUD 13,000
We would like to build a supportive community space with crops and a community hall for the local people. We aim to encourage education and spread awareness of common health concerns to disadvantaged families so that we can empower small remote communities living sustainability. By bringing employment and education, the villagers will feel less pressured to move to overpopulated and polluted cities resulting in poor physical and mental health.
SPONSORS & FUNDRAISING
Creating Space Yoga Retreats is the first official sponsor. From 2018 onwards, 50 AUD of every person booked on any retreat will go directly towards this project.
If you would like to set up a direct bank transfer per week, please send an email to email@example.com
We are looking for passionate people to help organise fundraisers and promote this project. If you would like to be in our community, please get in touch.
The first stage of the project has begun. In November 2017 Himanshi started her first course, studying English and Computer Skills, she is the first official women to be sponsored by this project. We are also sending money every month to support her family. A huge thank you to those who have donated so far!
