Back Home Again in Indiana
I grew up and went to school in Indiana before moving to Washington, DC and to Brooklyn, NY. I left my friends and family for 25 years, not visiting Indiana often. I changed and grew about how I thought about the world, but most of the people I know in Indiana did not. I want to try and change that.
This election woke me up--I was in Chicago on election day seeing the show, "Fun Home" when I started to think that Trump may very well win the election. The city was despondet and zombie-like, people were crying and cursing. Two days later, I was in my hometown of Wakarusa, IN where I saw Trump signs all over and people who I know and like voted for him. I learned a lot about what drove people to vote for Trump...and its not what you think!
Through this documentary, I want to interview friends, family and anyone throughout Indiana that I know (or not) and have them talk--express themselves and those that have the most imteresing stories, we will follow for a few days. I would attempt to have them understand why their vote for Trump may have seemed like a good idea at the time, but...
I would tie it all together with research on small town, rural America and how Washington works, having worked on both sides of Congress, at POLITICO, and the National Journal.
I am reaching back and trying to bring my home state along into the future and could use your help and support. Thank you!
Now imagine me, rather than Van, and Indiana, rather than Ohio. No political ideology but human to human...how do we think completely differently?
I am funding a large part of this project with my own savings, but I had no idea how expensive a camera crew, post-production, research, and that is not the most expensive part. That is when I try to get rights to music, video clips, TV shows, other things that are important to the story. So, I know, on the whole, this film is not that important...but if you give up Starbucks, that would be at least a thousand right there :-)
