In Support of Widows & Children

Family & friends, I have a small story and a favour to ask. My roommates and I have a dada here in Tanzania (she’s someone who helps with cooking and cleaning). She is the sweetest thing and is always taking care of us. She has asked us to come to a family fundraising event that her mother and father are hosting on June 30th (in 10 days) in a small village about 3 hours away from where we are living. The event is extremely small scale but is in support of a group of 40 people who are widows and young children. We are going to attend and give what we can but I thought I would start this page to raise a few extra dollars. This means that you have the chance to pay it forward if you’d like. I have limited information on the event because of the language barrier. Our dada was explaining to me how they are extremely poor. She showed me her broken flip flop and said, “see to us this is bad, but to them it would still be very very good”. She said they are grateful for receiving any clothes, soaps, shoes, etc. 
I’m hoping to investigate whether there are more foundational means of supporting this group other than providing them with ‘things’. But I believe this is what they need right now.  

She did not ask me to ask for further donations but I figured it could be a good opportunity. 

If you want to donate $3, $4, or $5, just as much as you’d spend on a morning coffee or an afternoon beer, I know it’ll be going to a good place. With any money we raise my roommates and I will go to the market and buy whatever we can. We will bring it to the event first hand. We’ll take lots of photos, and I heard there will be some Swahili-English speakers there so we can explain where these donations have come from. After the event I’ll update you on how it went. Please don’t feel like you have to give lots, just a few dollars can go a long way.
