In Remembrance of Krusher

Derek, or as most people knew him, Krusher, had THE biggest heart!! No matter his circumstances, how much or how little money he had in his pocket, if he knew you needed help he did what he could. I've heard stories of him taking younger guys under his wing, buying them socks, underwear, feeding them; whatever was needed to help get them on their feet.
His death comes as a surprise to many, and Cris and I were not prepared for this news. I've had many reach out to me about services, flowers,etc. Cris and I are planning to cremate and scatter his ashes in Florida. That is where Derek belongs, forever in the ocean.
Something that was near and dear to Derek's heart was bike building...the bigger, the crazier, the more freakbike, the better! There is an organization called Jack the Bike Man that Derek was a big part of each Christmas. 'Jack the Bike Man gives away free refurbished bicycles and helmets to children from economically challenged families during the holidays who live in Palm Beach County. Last year we presented close to 1400 bicycles.'
I've been told Krusher and friends spent countless hours at "The Henhouse" rebuilding kids' bikes for Jack, often pulling 48-hour shifts to knock out the builds. Derek spoke a lot about this organization to me and the joy in his voice was contagious! Jack is always short on funds, so my hope is to give to Jack in remembrance of Krusher. He would say flowers were a waste, but a bike will last a kid for years!
Cris and I thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. We will use some funds to help cover the cost of funeral expenses, but all remaining funds will go directly to Jack the Bike Man.
