In Memory of Yohannes Brhanu

Donation protected
Wednesday November 14, 2018 was a day of heartbreak for the family and friends of Yohannes Brhanu. It is the day that he left this earth - at a time in his life that seemed far too soon.

There are so many laughs, and milestones, and everyday experiences that his family and friends imagined they would share with him. So for those who knew and loved Yohannes most, there is a long journey of mourning and healing ahead of them.

Yohannes will always be remembered for his iconic smile, a smile that seemed to be in the exact same place and shape as you last saw it. He had a quiet charm and endearing nature that followed him from childhood into early adulthood.

Yes, Yohannes was a victim in a trend that is leaving broken hearts all over our city. However, he was more than a number and more than a media story.

Yohannes was a beloved son and brother. He was the youngest of three siblings. He was an enthusiastic and ever-present uncle. He was a longstanding friend to many. He was at the centre of a community that nurtured him and watched him grow. And he was and will always remain a precious child of God.

There is no amount of money that any of us can give to his family that will make a dent on the pain and suffering they are currently experiencing.

However, finances should be the last thing they have to think about at this time, which is why we are reaching out to you: you as someone who knew him, you as a friend of the family, you as a member of the community, you as a concerned and caring citizen. Whoever you are, if you are able to, we ask for your contribution to help cover the funeral and related expenses of Yohannes' family.

All of the proceeds collected here, including anything above the $7,000 goal, will be given directly to Yohannes' immediate family.

Thank you for your support, prayers, and contribution.

[NOTE: The family are aware of this campaign and appreciative of the love and support. My name is Alpha Abebe, I am a friend of the family's from Toronto and I have organized this campaign. The funds will be withdrawn directly by Biniam Woldie, the cousin of Yohannes. Biniam will pass these funds along to Yohannes' mother to use towards expenses related to this tragedy such as the memorial events and funeral.]
