In Memory of Richard Vanderveer
Donation protected
In April 2015, Richard Vanderveer was diagnosed with bladder cancer and MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome). Shortly thereafter, he underwent major surgery in which his bladder was removed. Unfortunately, due to his healing/recover from the surgery, he was unable to receive treatment for the MDS. As a result, the MDS progressed into AML Leukemia. After receiving this new diagnosis, Richard made it his goal to put everything into his fight, with his primary goal to walk his daughter down the aisle, in May 2016.
Over the course of almost two years, Richard received numerous chemo treatments and spent many months in and out of several Michigan hospitals. To no avail, Richard went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 14, 2017.
Throughout the treatments, procedures, hospital stays, and diagnosis', Richard and his wife, Gudrun, sustained several hardships, ending with the painful loss of her husband of 33 years.
The memories and love his family and friends have of Richard will last a lifetime, and he will be missed dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Mt. Zion Church in Clarkston, MI. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am, with a memorial service to follow at 10:00 - 11:00 am.
It can be extremely difficult to prepare financially for such a trivial time, and loss of a loved one. Often, flowers and food are gifted in such difficult times. As Richard's only child, I am swallowing my pride, and humbly asking that if you are planning to do something in line with that, please consider gifting directly to my Mom, Gudrun, to assist with the financial burden, emotional, and future financial loss. Please, please do not feel any sort of obligation.
Your love and support are very much appreciated in a manner in which we can never repay.
