In Memory of Angel Garza

Donation protected
Our sister Angel Garza was homeless in Las Vegas when she became a victim of a hit and run late Monday night, October 15th while pushing a shopping cart and walking one of her dog's across a dimly lit street that resulted in horrific injuries. Both her arms and legs were broken, her pelvis was broken in 3 places, her left kidney, liver, heart and lungs were all damaged beyond repair and she had a skull fracture… her dog Scrappy died at the scene.

The doctors at UMC did everything possible to save her… but in the end, she succumbed to the injuries after fighting for 4 days… her body could just not heal… she passed on October 19th with her sister Jessica at her side.

Thankfully the Detective investigating the crime told me the car involved was found and the driver did come back to the scene to turn himself in to the investigators … we are not sure, but we think his car insurance will cover her medical expenses.

The Goal:

We started this campaign to help cover the immediate need of the cost for her cremation.

But we also need help paying for travel expenses for our mother, her two daughters, two of her sisters and other family members who live out of state to be able to go to the upcoming court hearings to represent and speak for Angel… to put a face to this senseless tragedy and let them know she was a person that has a family who loves and misses her.

After that journey is complete… if there is money left over, it will be used to bring the whole family together to celebrate her life. Anything remaining be dispersed among her children for their needs and education.

Where and how the funds will be used will be mutually agreed upon by Angel’s mother and sister’s. The disbursements will be handled by her oldest sister Moki.

Who Angel Was:

Angel was not ‘just’ another homeless person struggling with addiction on the streets of Las Vegas. She was a mother leaving behind two daughters, Alicia and Adrianna that are in the care of their father in California and a son, Aiden living with his Aunt Christol and Grandmother in Minnesota.  A little and big sister to Moki, Jessica and Christol… and she was the 3rd daughter of 5 who looked most like our mother Barbara…

Angel was that ‘fun & crazy’ Auntie to a whole flock of nieces and nephews… and great nieces and nephews…. who carried her emotional support Chihuahua (Peanut) on her shoulder like a parrot... she had a fantastic wicked sense of humor that would leave us all laughing until our cheeks and sides ached.

**Update 10/25- If you are in Las Vegas, Peanut is looking for a loving 'forever' home, Jessica cannot keep her at her apartment. Please message me if you are interested.**

Angel was a natural self-taught artist creating beautiful sketches and murals that seemed to just flow from her soul to her pencils and brushes… Our world will be a little less colorful and beautiful … and not as bright since her light had to leave us.

Angel was one of the most authentic people I have ever known… she said it like it was and didn’t take crap from anyone… and lived life on her own terms. We all tried to get her off the streets but she did not except our offers and help… she wanted to do it herself.

Our sister chose to walk the hard path she was on and had a lot of difficulties and struggle in this life. That said… some of the many best things about Angel was her passion for life, she was non-judgmental and had great compassion for others and fierce loyalty to her friends and family.

She did not have much but if you were ever in need… whatever it was … be it food, a place to shelter, clothes… she would feed you, offer you her sleeping mat and give you the shirt off her back… all with a contagious smile backed up with some words of encouragement.

**Updated 10/25- I just found out the reason she was out on the street on the night of the accident was because she went out to get water for a group of her homeless neighbors she had just cooked a carne asada meal with beans n rice for. She did this often… basically for anyone else who happen to come through her area and was hungry and needed to rest. Even for those who have been unkind and mistreated her. She would still offer them a plate and help them.**

We appreciate any support you can offer… and THANK YOU in advance for whatever you can give and sharing her story to help us raise the funds needed.

I will keep you updated on the outcomes of the upcoming court proceedings and when we are able to hold a service for her.

One Last Word:

I would like to leave you with the words of one of her favorite nephews, Brandon “Angel you were the definition of ride or die, you always had all of our backs no matter what! I hope you truly found peace and can finally rest.”
