In Loving Memory of Marie Macfie
Tax deductible
As most of you know, we just recently lost my MIL - Marie Macfie to cancer on March 20, 2019. When her cancer returned for a second time and was deemed as terminal, she decided that she wanted to die on her own terms. She refused chemo and opted for home palliative care instead. As a retired nurse she had spent most of her life in a hospital helping others and decided it was not the way she wanted to spend her final days. Being at home allowed her to enjoy the things she loved - family, friends, and her cat Benny. She could open up the curtains to feel the warmth of the sun and crack open a window to hear the birds chirping away and smell the country air ( an acquired scent). She could sip on a tea, crack open a coke or slurp away at her peach shakes or whatever she desired. The house was a revolving door with 10- 20 guests visiting on any given day. She was well loved in her community as a Lioness, an active Church Elder and participating / volunteering in most Community Events - especially Dancing and Karaoke!
She passed away peacefully holding her son's hand and smiling as she drifted into her final sleep.
It was barely a week of being gone that I heard about the Townsend Smith Foundation here in Milton. They are rallying the community to help build a hospice that would be a residential retreat for families to be able to do exactly what Marie wishes were - Die with Dignity on YOUR OWN TERMS and Live Life to the fullest surround with Joy and Laughter.
I am taking on a personal quest to raise a min of $5000. In doing so, I will be able to have a bench dedicated in Loving Memory of Marie Macfie that will be placed outdoors in the garden. Marie was all about community and giving back and she lead a life of service to others so this is the best way that I can think of to honour her memory and selfishly have a little bit of her close by for my family.
I want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to my partner - Susana Medeiros of The Mom Show for supporting the decision to have Townsend Smith Foundation as the charity we will be donating a portion of the proceeds to from the show - Saturday April 27, 2019.
