In Loving Memory of Majaliwa
Donation protected
In January of 2017, our hallways at an elementary school in Sioux Falls, were blessed with the most eccentric and lovely presence of Majaliwa Ramadhani. Having arrived from a refugee camp in Tanzania, Majaliwa began school with very little English. Learning the language and culture quickly, he soon became a “standout” student in school. He gave us all something to look forward to each day. Throughout the year and a half we all had the pleasure of knowing him, he taught us so much more than any of us could have taught him. Majaliwa was kind to everyone, smiled so big it would light up a room, and gave the greatest hugs (all who knew him will attest to this ☺️). Day in and day out, someone at school always had a “Majaliwa story” to share. He was one-of-a-kind and will be remembered with joy forever.
My my name is Megan Peters, and I am from Sioux Falls, SD. I had the honor of being Majaliwa’s 2nd grade teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. Majaliwa was a very special student with a heart of pure gold. He was kind to everyone he met. Over the last year I have had several opportunities to get to know Majaliwa’s family. They are so grateful for the community support during this difficult time. Majaliwa’s father recently told me that he now knows they aren’t alone.
Less than a month before Majaliwa’s passing, the family lost nearly all of their belongings in an apartment fire. Our hope with raising money is to support this family, with any of their current needs, during this tragic time in their lives.
After visiting with the family, they have asked me to receive the funds directly so that I can give it to them in cash. We are supporting the family in purchasing a headstone for Majaliwa’s grave. The remaining funds will go toward bills and daily needs, as both of Majaliwa’s parents are not working for the month of July while they grieve the loss of their son.
