Empower Members of Our Immigrant Community become Citizens
Everyday refugees escape a brutal landscape overseas. These families, if they can stay together, seek peace and freedom in America. They flee their homes under the cloak of darkness, taking great risks to themselves to get out anyway they can. They find residence in Lowell, MA, but they wind up lost with no resources to help them assimilate into the melting pot of inner-city areas. Many of them have never been in a formal education program. Each year, 15-20 new refugees find themselves grappling against barriers as non-US citizens, struggling to advocate for themselves to obtain basic resources that we take for granted every day.
Every penny donated towards the Lowell Refugee groups through SayDaNar CDC will go towards the costs of providing a formal education to refugees in the area looking to pass the US Citizenship test. There are currently no other options in Lowell for these refugees.
Our goal is to empower refugees to advocate for themselves as they assimilate into our culture, ultimately improving our community for generations through formal citizenship courses. These courses will cost about $2,000 annually.
