ilaria's mission: "Go to NYC to live!"

Ilaria is 24 years old. She is a young student in the fifth year of law school who has undergone 7 brain surgeries since 2013 due to an anaplastic meningioma now defined incurable by the doctors. The long ordeal that led Ilaria to be hospitalized several times in different Italian hospitals, from Udine to Pavia to Rome, seems to have no end.
Despite the treatment and interventions, the disease continues to present itself every time in an increasingly aggressive manner only that this time, just a few days ago, doctors have said: enough. For Ilaria there are no hopes of healing. All the protocols, experimental and otherwise, to which the girl was subjected were declared unsuccessful by a team of expert doctors who really took care of his case, presenting it around Europe in various congresses. Even the treatments that could have been decisive, such as radiosurgery performed in Milan, present an immediate risk of death too high (90% according to doctors) to be taken into consideration. Ilaria was operated last time for the removal of yet another recurrence in January 2018. Since then, the meningioma has moved to a point in the brain that doctors have defined inoperable.
Since that last intervention to date Ilaria has also had to undergo two other surgical interventions related to complications concerning the head injury. Infections, pains and various complications continue to afflict this girl who does not find peace and who can no longer be helped by the doctors who until now have assisted her and who still continue to support her morally and psychologically. But her mother does not give up and, overcome by despair, starts asking for help from friends and relatives. Through her knowledge she obtains medical advice in Switzerland and in France. Unfortunately, the answer is always the same. Just like the Italian one: for Ilaria there is nothing left to do. "The doctors - says Ilaria’s mom- gave us a list of clinical trials, i.e. experimental protocols. Ilaria has been subjected to three of these protocols, in addition to all traditional treatments but it has been useless, even these have failed ".
The last hope comes from America.
Ilaria and her family continue to struggle because maybe a chance to defeat the disease is there and it comes from overseas. "In America, unlike what happens in Europe and in Italy - Ilaria's mother continues - medical research is progressing thanks to the funds available that are missing from us. Among the centers that can give us hope is the Sloan Kettering in New York, the United States cancer center par excellence. "In this center the doctors offered to study the case of Ilaria and organized a visit in the new year but the family does not have the necessary money to bring Ilaria to America and allow them access to medical care whose costs are really prohibitive .. Ilaria’s mom is an employee and Ilaria is a student and they cannot even count on the help of the head of the family. Border police officer died in circumstances to be clarified in 2014 during a service mission abroad, an event that not only shocked the life of the whole family but on which the judiciary is still trying to shed light. " The state has never acknowledged any compensation for my husband's death - explains Ilaria’s mother- In fact, almost everything we had was allocated to legal expenses to try to understand what happened to him. But we need someone's help now. We sent to the American center all the medical documentation and the slides (two small plates of glass containing the tumor tissue) to be analyzed but unfortunately only for the histological examination procedure we need hundreds of dollars that we do not have.Treatment lime these are ranging between 80 thousand and 400 thousand dollars depending on the type of therapy to which my daughter will be subjected. With the fundraising between friends, relatives and work colleagues I managed to raise about 12 thousand euros that will be used for the first visit, which costs 5 thousand dollars, and for the trip. Unfortunately we do not have enough money to allow my Ilaria to be cured ".
