Friends of Ike

UPDATED 5/12/19:  As many of you may know, in January 2018 our schoolmate and friend Ike Dolphan was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain tumor. He underwent emergency surgery and completed several months of treatment in New Haven. At that time, many of you contributed to this GoFundMe account to assist with the costs of his treatment and recovery. Ike, his family and friends are extremely grateful for the support of this community at that time.

Ike was very excited to return to school in September but, unfortunately the tumor returned in March 2019 and Ike had to resume treatments. After 3 weeks at Memorial Sloan Kettering, he transferred to Blythedale for physical rehab and was able to return home briefly. Unfortunately, he has had a setback and has been re-admitted to the hospital for additional treatment.

We were so thankful to raise over $60,000 in our fundraiser last year, but we now realize the need is much greater than any of us anticipated. To provide perspective, Ike’s family received a $41,000 bill just for the emergency helicopter flight to New Haven. Insurance will not cover that expense. The bills are mounting and the family faces additional bills from medications, co- pays, deductibles, home health care services and a host of other uncovered expenses. Our parents and others are helping the Dolphans work with providers and the insurance company to try to reduce or eliminate as many of these exorbitant charges as possible, but the financial burden is still overwhelming.

We are calling on everyone’s generosity once again so that we can continue to support the Dolphan family during this difficult time. Ike and his family are doing everything they can to battle this terrible disease and we want to do everything we can to support them in the fight. Any amount you are able to donate is helpful and very much appreciated. As before, all money raised will go to Mr. and Mrs. Dolphan to help with the costs of Ike’s continued treatment and care.
