Assistance for ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease

Thank you to my very dear friend of over 40 years, Amy Glin for creating this blessing for me ~ I love you ♥️

This campaign is called "If Love Were Enough" because if it were, our dear friend Shelley would be healed. She is loved by so many people.

Unfortunately, it isn't.

Degenerative diseases begin innocuously enough, a seeming missed step, a stumble, a fall. But when it continues over time, and other symptoms begin showing up, you realize it's something you have figure out. You have to figure out what's causing your new found instability. It's scary to walk down a path that uncovers new realities, of a body with its own agenda. These are answers you never want to have to face.

It took 4 years and endless hours of testing and poking and prodding to come to the first diagnosis, a rare form of Parkinson's called PSP. But Shelley was also having difficulty breathing, which sent her back for more test and the diagnosis, ALS with complications from the PSP.

The disease is progressing too fast. Shelley can no longer lift her own body weight. When she falls, which happens more than occasionally, she cannot get up without help. Everything takes more effort than Shelley has to give. Something as simple as getting into bed leaves her gulping for enough air to breathe.

Her husband, David, is an angel. He's doing everything in his power to support his wife. But they can't do this alone. They need our help. He's scared to leave for work, in case Shelley falls or needs something. She cannot take care of herself.
Currently his work has been sporadic, until home health care can be set up.

Shelley is getting a motorized wheelchair to help her move around, but with that comes other needs. A handicapped accessible apartment, a van the wheelchair fits in to get her out of the house, home health care so David can work and bring in some much-needed funds. And then there's prism glasses to help her see. There are so many things one would never know about until you need them.

Shelley is grateful for any and all help. She says," Thank you for all your love and compassion. It really is one day at a time, and I’m doing the best I know how."

Let's gather together our resources and help make these beautiful people's lives a little easier. And we welcome sharing this far and wide with anyone who might have the heart and means to help out.
