The Problem

Adults and children at home with physical disabilities, mobility challenges, and limited economic resources do not have access to the appropriate exercise equipment and wellness services. Whether former injured retired NFL player, disabled veteran hero, child in a wheelchair, senior at home in bed at risk of atrophy, anyone at home deserves what we are uniquely offering. Additionally, insurance providers do not provide assistance in accessing the proper equipment. This lack of access to adequate exercise and mobility thus further disables those in need by deepening their disabilities and continuing to strip them of their independence. The effects of this are broad and critical, examples being, clinical depression, muscle atrophy, weight gain, and additional complications and injuries.

Key Facts
1. Physical disability is defined as when a person’s physical functioning, mobility, dexterity, or stamina is limited.

2. According to the CDC’s 2015 National Health Interview Survey there are approximately 77 million people over the age of 18 residing in the United States who experience difficulty performing basic physical actions.

3. According to the same survey,  an estimated 20.3 million families, or 29% of all families in the United States, have at least one member with a disability.

4. 27 million women have disabilities in the US.

5. Those children or adults who are physically disabled who are specifically unable to get up to exercise are highly vulnerable to early onset obesity, clinical depression, muscle atrophy and a variety of dangerous illnesses.

6. Approximately 8.9 million school-age children in the U.S. have a physical disability.

7. Students with disabilities have lower rates of participation in afterschool activities, leading to decreased socialization and leadership development.

8. People with physical disability make up the largest minority group of the US.

9. Of today’s 20 year-olds, just over 1 in 4 will become disabled before they retire.

10. 17.6% of people with a disability were employed in the US in 2013.

11. Two-thirds of those with physical disabilities who would like to be employed are unemployed

12. In the US, 25.6% of people with a disability are physically inactive during the week, compared to 12.8% of those without a disability.

13. Assistive technology is vital to more than a third of people with disabilities being able to take care of themselves at home.

 Foundation Background
This Foundation was conceived from a group of individuals who had witnessed many people from many walks of life and different sets of circumstances who had once been active and mobile become destined for lives of atrophy and deterioration and forgotten after being admitted to care facilities. Caregivers believing  it is too risky that someone may possibly fall if up and out of their beds on their own, thus they become forcibly bedridden. Their families, as a consequence, are forced to helplessly watch their loved ones slowly atrophy: physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Those at the In Bed and Chair Recovery Foundation realized it did not have to be this way. Just because someone could not get out of bed and walk to a gym, or could not afford the exercise equipment, does not mean they could not and should not have access to the same opportunities to better themselves physically and move to furthering their independence. A person  deserves the opportunity to have access to the best possible exercise options and wellness services despite the limitations of their insurance providers. To us having a disability or experiencing injury, whether temporary or permanent, was no reason someone should be in a bed or chair immobile and  dependent. We knew there had to be a way to devise a system and service which could accommodate anyone with any mobility complication and ultimately increase their personal agility, happiness and independence. We at IBCR realized the need for physical, low-impact exercises perfect for these individuals in need, envisioned the Ultimate Workout and Recovery System and services as the solution.

Since the creation of these unique systems, the founders  at Ultimate Workout and Recovery saw a recurring need for the System and services in the homes of those who were for one reason or another not having access to the resources to acquire one on their own, in addition to the need for wellness education. This then facilitated the creation of the In Bed and Chair Recovery Foundation 501(c)3 which provides the Ultimate Workout and Recovery System, in addition to wellness consultations to any who would not have the means or access to such equipment and services without the assistance of the foundation.

The Solution: The Ultimate Workout and Recovery System and sponsored Wellness Services

Proudly made in the USA with exceptionally strong aluminum/steel materials and sleek color coded durable resistance bands, this System design was based on Sound Movement Therapy and Exercise principles. This System was designed to create something exciting and convenient for all workout and therapy needs, whether they be from a bed, recliner and/or wheelchair; and while a person is recovering either in a clinic or at home. The  Ultimate Workout and Recovery System is simple to set up, adjusts to multiple heights and widths, collapses for easy storage, and is suitable for use in a: recliner, bed, or wheelchair. The system provides a low impact workout with very little effort needed. Additionally there are no risks of the types of injuries which accompany the use of free weights or loose resistance bands. The user is in total control.

The variable resistance cords and accessories, whether cardio workouts or strength training, create an increase in exercise options and range of motions. All of this leading to an expedited and more active therapy session for the user.

In addition to the Ultimate Workout and Recovery System an essential part to health and wellness for any individual is education, not only on how to use the System, but on how to improve one’s personal health at all. Due to this the In Bed and Chair Recovery foundation also offers all recipients personal training and wellness consultations in order to discuss and offer a regimen which would best suit the individual.
