For anyone that has met her, you will know the kind of lady Iwona Sobieraj is.  Kind, loving, and most of all selfless in her pursuit of saving dogs and cats in need.  She pulls unwanted animals from high kill shelters, takes in the lost souls from owners that are no longer able or willing to care for them, and gives them a second chance at a better life.  Iwona foregoes the luxuries of life to support her aging mother, son, and the animals in her care.  She drives a van that often needs repairs to stay on the road, travelling many miles per year to reach dogs and cats in jeopardy.  If you visit her property, you will see her extensive efforts to provide the best place possible for the animals on a very low budget.  Fences need repairs, electricity and heat bills need to be paid, there are extensive veterinary bills, food, litter, cleaning supplies, the list goes on.  In a devastating turn of events, Iwona's son Damian has been pulled, deceased, from the St. Lawrence River in Brockville.  His death is currently being investigated as a crime.  For a woman that has done so much to give back to the world, to sacrifice daily comforts so that others may live better, this loss and the nature of her son's death is utterly horrific and unfair.  On top of her daily financial struggles in animal rescue, she now faces funeral and aftercare expenses as she attempts to crawl out of the darkness that only the loss of a child can bring.  PLEASE consider a donation, small or large.  Every dollar added to this fund will make a difference and hopefully will be a tiny light in the dark for Iwona.

Update: Brockville Police will now be enforcing a 12am - 6am curfew for youths under 16. They have now made a statement outlining that they are taking this gang of teens seriously and are prepared to take action. A curfew is fantastic - but I believe the residents of Brockville need to push for an earlier start time such as 9pm. No child under 16 needs to be out at that time of night unsupervised. It's time their parents step up to the plate and take responsibility for their kids.

The outpouring of support for Iwona has been incredible. Thank you all so much, your donations are making a profound impact on the financial strain Iwona faces as a result of Damian's death.

Please be a part of the solution by pushing the city of Brockville for answers and demanding that justice be served in Damian's murder. ***EDIT: Details of crime removed from update as requested by a concerned supporter. I only included these details because it seems that everyone already knows the who and how of the crime here in our small town.*** This group of teens has been known to terrorize, intimidate and assualt others in the past. Currently the city is attempting to calm the fears of locals by downplaying the seriousness of their role in violence within the city and at the local high schools. This simply can't be the end of this conversation. PLEASE ask questions, demand answers, push for change. This is a city we all work, play and raise our children in. Any one of us could have been the victim that fateful night in Hardy Park.
