In Memory of Marina

Meet Marina. A beautiful, 2 year old who was loving life in Austin. Like many Austin dogs, she enjoyed time exercising on the greenbelt. Over the weekend, she was poisoned with strichnyne while out on the trails. If you aren't familiar with strychnine it is a highly toxic posion that has horrific effects on animals and humans. The vet found chicken in her stomach, which she had not eaten at home, so it is possible that someone irresponsibly put chicken laced with strychnine on the greenbelt with the intent of killing something (like a coyote). Marina's family took her to the vet, and did the best they could to save her, but sadly she died after 36 hours of fighting for her life.

Not only has Marina's family lost their beloved pet the weekend before Christmas, but they suffered a huge financial loss as a result of Marina's posioning. They are currently unable to buy Christmas gifts for their children, and are struggling to cover rent. If the donation amount exceeds what they need for rent and a few Christmas presents, the remaining money will be donated back to the animal hospital which provided Marina with medicine and IV bags.

Shannon, Marina's owner, is a dog walker/sitter in the apartment complex where she lives. She shows endless love and kindess to everyones pets and is a great example of responsible pet ownership. It is tragic and unfair that this has happened to their family, and there was nothing they could do to prevent it. They would never ask for help (friends made this page), but we believe the Austin dog community would want the chance to support a fellow dog lover.
